Highland Retreat and BPO Destination
US military forces initially constructed Baguio City as a highlands retreat shortly after the Philippine War hostilities. Today it draws Manila's wealthy elite during the steamy summer months.
Located in the Philippines' northern Cordillera Administrative Region, Baguio City has the country's coldest average temperature all year. It's set high in the mountains, offering breathtaking views of nature unsurpassed anywhere else.
Baguio is the seat of government of the Cordillera Administrative Region and hosts over 20 colleges and universities, including the Philippines Military Academy. The city of over 360,000 is equal parts regional capital and college-town, graduating over 10,000 college students a year.
As a BPO destination, Baguio City offers somewhat less of the urban challenge of Manila with a more temperate climate, abundant talent, and a low cost of doing business.
The Baguio City Economic Zone (BCEZ), a Government-certified and -approved business and industrial park, is located in the city's southern sector between Camp John Hay Country Club and Philippine Military Academy in Barangay Loakan.
Besides several large locators like InterContinental Hotels Group, Teleperformance, and Connectix, Texas Instruments has a large facility in the summer capital.
